Gooding & Company Achieves 100% Sell-Through Rate

Santa Monica, Calif. (5 February 2021) – Gooding & Company, the internationally acclaimed auction house known for selling many of the world’s most significant and valuable collector cars, realized £8,453,500 at its Geared Online UK sale. Gooding & Company achieved a 100% sell-through rate with two cars selling above the £1 million mark and an average price per car of £939,277.

The nine-car collection, which consisted of Europe’s most renowned and accomplished marques, saw Aston Martin take home the top sale, with the 1961 Aston Martin DB4 GT realizing a final price of £2,750,000. The 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 became the second-highest selling car at a price of £1,870,000, followed by an immaculate 1963 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster which bidders battled out for until it sold for £935,000. The second Aston Martin in the sale, a 1963 Aston Martin DB5 Convertible, realized £836,000 and became one of the most exciting lots after a lengthy back-and-forth between prospective owners. The nine-day sale also included a 1930 Bentley 4 1/2 Litre Sports Tourer that achieved £539,000, a 1931 Bentley 8 Litre Pointed Tail Two Seater that sold for £627,000, and a 1950 Bentley B Special Speed 8 realized £214,500. A pair of pristine Rolls-Royces rounded out the online only auction with the 1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Continental Drophead Coupe selling for £396,000, and a 1930 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Continental earning £286,000.

Geared Online – The Phil Hill Automobilia Collection “A Life in Racing”
Gooding & Company’s next sale will be The Phil Hill Automobilia Collection. The second of the three sales dedicated to legendary race car driver, Phil Hill, will focus on the celebrated competitor’s life in racing. In total, over 300 lots without reserve from the life and successful racing career of Phil Hill will be available for the first time ever at public auction from February 8 – 19. Highlights include a Herbert Johnson Racing Helmet (Estimate: $80,000 – $110,000), Phil Hill’s Le Mans 1962 Winner’s Trophy (Estimate: $20,000 – $40,000), a Rolex ‘Zenith’ Daytona Ref. 16520 (Estimate: $30,000 – $50,000), and a Shelby Cobra Team Jacket, c.1963 (Estimate: $20,000 – $30,000).
