First-Gen Camaro Facts
The first-generation Camaro appeared in dealerships in September 29, 1966. The 1967 was available as a 2-door, 2+2, hardtop with the choice of a straight 6 or V-8. The first-generation Camaro was built through 1969.
Almost all of 1967-1969 Camaros were built in the two either Norwood, Ohio or Van Nuys, California.
There were three options available in the first-generation Camaro’s:
The RS package was primarily cosmetic. It included hidden headlights, taillights with back-up lights under the rear bumper and an RS badge.
The SS performance package touted a 350 ci or 396 ci. V8s, It also had chassis upgrades to better handle the additional power. The SS featured non-functional air inlets on the hood, special striping, and SS badging.
The Z/28 performance package was designed to compete in the SSCA Trans Am Series. It came with a 302 ci V-8, 4-speed transmission, power disc brakes, and two strips to enhance the racing look.
