Submarine Veterans coming to Allen, Texas car show

We are always hearing from several veterans and their heroic stories on ships, land and in the air, but many of our victories and success can also be attributed to our Submarine Veterans.

On March 9 & 10, 2019 the Dallas Submarine Veterans will be coming to the North Texas Classic Car Show & Auction in Allen, Texas at the new Watters Creek Convention Center, 777 Watters Creek Blvd. Along with all the beautiful auction and show cars, visitors will be able to speak with many of these heroic Submarine Veterans.

MANITOWOC, WI – MAY 06: Sailors stand aboard the USS Cobia where a memorial service was held to honor the death of the men lost on the USS Lagarto during WWII May 6, 2006 in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Family and friends of the 86 crew members aboard the submarine gathered at the Wisconsin Maritime Museum for the memorial service. The USS Lagarto was presumed lost at sea when it did not arrive at its destination in Australia in May 1945. The whereabouts of the ship remained unknown until divers discovered the vessel last year off the coast of Thailand. (Photo by Scott Olson/Getty Images)

Doug Gallagher, a member of the Dallas Submarine Veterans told Myclassic News “The mission of the national organization is to perpetuate the memory of our shipmates who gave their lives in the pursuit of their duties, while serving their country. That their dedication, deeds and supreme sacrifice be a constant source of motivation toward greater accomplishments. Pledge loyalty and patriotism to the United States and its Constitution”.

Their local base, which is called Dallas Submarine Veterans, participate in the Dallas Veterans Day parade, award scholarships to worthy kids and grandkids of submarine veterans, support the Womens Veterans Association to provide assistance to homeless female veterans, promote blood drives in the community,  participate in a program called Kaps for Kids, where we go to local children’s hospitals and pass out hats/scarves to kids undergoing treatment for cancer and other diseases. Their website is www.dallassubvets.org. They have around 100 members in the Dallas area at this time.
