American history is slowly eroding and it has recently become a task for the big three to renovate some of the older facilities used throughout the years to manufacture their automobiles. But what remains of current day Packard is on the other end of the spectrum.

Packard was and is no stranger to foreclosures and now the current owner of the Packard facility is at risk of a Wayne County foreclosure. It is reported that 3 years have lapsed since he has paid the taxes on the facility, which gives the county the legal authority to conduct a foreclosure sale.

The Wayne County Treasurer’s Office will accept payments on unpaid taxes until March 31, 2019 or property owners can establish payment plans. If no remedies are presented by the owners, the county will begin foreclosure proceedings.

As we watch our automotive historical landmarks in America dissolve, we still have the interest in the classic vehicles such as the Packards that will continue the legacy, but as a society we are at a turning point as to whether we choose to preserve that part of history that is only a generation’s length away or lose it forever.

Let’s hope that enthusiasts, whether it be classic car investors, clubs or other preservation entities will step in and give our ancestors a renovated glimpse into the history that started the evolution of transit, regardless of where that evolution technology ends.
