The Ferrari V8 and The Sharjah Desert

If you have ever been to the UAE, you probably know that the geography is as diverse as it comes from city to desert. You can be in the middle of a desolate desert, then within no time be in the metropolis of Dubai.

Ferrari Far & Middle East staged a triumphant welcome for the Portofino the entire month of April, hosting an exclusive lifestyle drive event for this beautiful new addition to the iconic Maranello stable. This exhilarating debut, the first outside of Italy, hosted international and regional prospects and media to experience the unrivalled sportiness and impressive power of the model on the UAE’s desert routes, taking in some of the best driving roads in the world.

The journey began with a light breakfast at the hotel overlooking the beautiful cityscape of Dubai, followed by a briefing on the route and technical aspects of the Portofino, before heading out in a triumphant Parade formation deep into the Dubai and Sharjah desert. The itinerary encompassed a few landmarks, including Fossil Rock, passing through numerous local villages and exploring the best of the UAE’s mountain terrain. The group halted at the Hatta Dam for photos and videos, before making its way to the world-class Hatta Resort for a gourmet lunch. After a pit-stop, it was time for more photo and videos against a mountain backdrop before the convoy headed back to their hotel at day’s end.

The quintessential desert Arabian backdrop and glimpse into authentic desert culture was selected to reflect the close synergy between Ferrari and the Middle East. The Marque has a deep love, passion and respect for the loyal Ferraristi and is proud to showcase its products in unique and iconic settings. A total of 120 test drives for prospects and journalists were conducted over the entire month.

Ferrari has chosen a particularly evocative name for this exceptionally versatile drop-top car. Portofino is renowned for its charming port and, over the years, has become internationally synonymous with elegance, sportiness and understated luxury. The launch colour of the new Ferrari has also been dedicated to this marvellous town: Rosso Portofino.

Capable of unleashing a massive 600 cv and sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds, the Ferrari Portofino is the most powerful convertible to combine the advantages of a retractable hard top, a roomy boot and generous cockpit space plus two rear seats suitable for short trips.

The Ferrari Portofino’s all-new chassis features a significant weight saving over the California T it replaces. Thanks to the extensive use of modern production technologies, all the chassis and body-in-white components have been redesigned with a consequent reduction in weight despite an increase in torsional rigidity.

The Portofino is a Ferrari designed to be driven every day that also effortlessly converts from an authentic ‘berlinetta’ coupé to a drop-top capable of delivering a unique Ferrari soundtrack and superb driving pleasure even in day-to-day situations.
